Had a great week in Boa Vista with Kitesurf lessons. Had a lot of fun and a great instructor named Dilan. I still need to practice a lot, but I can kite for a couple of 100 meters! Booked the 8-days Kitesurfcamp, including appartment, breakfast en dinner. Lessons great, accomodation Vilas Na Areia was perfect and nearby the kitesurfcamp (15 minutes walk). For breakfast en dinner you go to different restaurants, so you get to enjoy lots of different flavors.
Understand that you're in a different country en thing may be different from you'r own country. The motto on the island is " don't stress". Try to do that en you'll have a great time!

We were unfortunately not satisfied with the surf camp service at boa vista. The accommodation provided did not match the features that were advertised, and the alternative accommodation was also missing several expected amenities (for example WiFi and missing door lock). Although an attempt was made to find a apropiate accommodation, this was not possible within two days. The way our concerns were handled afterwards did not felt customer-friendly. Due to the atmosphere that developed, we decided to end the camp early. We did receive a small partial refund, but this did not compensate for the additional costs or the disappointing start of the vacation. If you are looking for a classic camp atmosphere, this is probably not the place to expect it.

Pros:

  • Very responsive and friendly on Whatsapp
  • Good materials
  • Nice location next to a great beach club
  • Some friendly instructors (Anderson, Food)

Cons:

  • Overall, very low energy and not exactly enthusiastic/friendly/welcoming in person. Doesn't really feel comfortable to ask several questions because the manager seems rather busy/annoyed/uninterested in person.
  • The beach location is not easy to come back to because of the dunes that don't allow you to go back further for the upwind return approach. The manager told me not to come back further down the beach (near Kitekriol), but instead to wait to be collected by boat. However, it took me about an hour to get their attention to go back when the wind dropped, which was quite exhausting, so I was pretty sore for several days.
  • Two of the instructors were rather unfriendly, and one yelled at me inappropriately during a kitefoiling lesson, which was uncomfortable, so I ended it.

We booked 5 days of kitesurfing and had a great instructor. Dylan supported us very well so that we progressed quickly and had a lot of fun too. I was a bit nervous because of the waves, but Dylan and the rescue team supported us so well that we felt comfortable and safe at all times. The atmosphere is relaxed and professional at the same time.

We booked 5 kite lessons for 2 with Antonio. He is the manager of the school. We felt always fairly treated and all our questions including the pre-payment were handled by Antonio with best care. Thanks!
The lessons with Dylan were extremely helpful and very professional. We've had several trials with kite surfing before in different schools. He's definitely the best for beginners! Calm, supportive, helpful, good advice and understands the level of his students so that you're neither under- nor overchallenged.

Also the rest of the team was very helpful with the boat driving, setting up of the kite, etc.

Thanks! And see you again, maybe in Portugal or back here in Boa Vista!
